Hello, I'm planning on making a trip to japan this coming April. The thing is, I want to go from one extreme to the other of honshu. I'd start from Kobe, and from that point I want to go to Hagi, Tsuwano, Izumo, Kyoto, Tokyo and Yamagata. I'd arrive in Japan on April the 2nd and leave on the 16th. And now the questions:

1.Is this doable?
2. Would the JR Pass cover all my travels?

Thank you in advance!

Hi Victor,

Sounds like a great plan to me! You will have 14 days so on average you could stay 2 nights at every location atleast. So Yes I think it is certainly doable. We just publised a map you can use to look up the stations and see if they are reachable by JR. Here is the Map for reference

  1. The JR-Pass will cover almost everything! Only in you plan on visiting Izumo Taisha (or did you have other plans in Isumo?) will you have to take a private railway/bus for a little bit which is 480 yen for one way.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Daniel-san, thank you very much for your helpful and fast reply.
I was just checking the map as well as using the hyperdia website to see how to get from one place to the other. I was actually surprised to see how long it takes from hagi to tsuwano, so I went to the guide and it said you can ride a bocho bus. Is that one included?
Thank you in adavnce!

Never mind that last question. I checked and there was yet another station in Hagi which allows for a faster travel by train. By the way, all transfers mentioned in the hyperdia website are made in the same station, right? Just to be sure.

Hi again,

Yes they are! Otherwise it will start walk x amount of minutes.

I would be more than happy to comment on any transfer if you have doubts about it.

Daniel-san, I have to ask you. I'm going to Japan on sunday. I already have my Jr Pass with me here and also looked up every train I needed to take. The thing is, today, as I was double checking with the Hyperdia website, most of the train were different, rangeing from times, trip lenght or even connections. Now, I can handle the lenght, but connectios, as well as the time Í'm expected to board a particular train are a different story. What I'd like to know is, is there any chance, even if slight, that the trains will change once more?
Thank you in advance.

Hi Victor,

JR recently published a new digital time table for April 2013, this will remain valid for the coming 3 months and you won't have to worry about any new changes.

Let me know if any route is unclear and I will explain it.

Enjoy your travels!
-Daniel
