Hello,
We shall be two adults travelling from April 16, 2018
Day 1 Haneda- Tokyo
Day 2 &3 in Tokyo
DAy 4 Tokyo-Kyoto
DAy 5- Kyoto-Nara- Kyoto
DAy 6 Kyoto
Day 7 Kyoto
Day 8 Kyoto-Kanazawa- Kyoto
Day 9 Kyoto
Day 10 Kyoto- Hakone
DAy 11 Hakone area - any other trips?
Day 12 Hakone - Tokyo
DAy 13 Tokyo
Day 14- Tokyo- Kamakura- Tokyo
DAy 15 Tokyo
Day 16 Tokyo- Narita

I wanted to check the following;
1) Will I need a 14 days pass or 21 days pass
2) Are all these trips valid and easy to do using the pass and trains
3) Are there any restrictions in the type of travel
4) In case one buys the first class pass, will one get trains on all these sectors?
5) Being a very busy time, will one have to make a reservation in advance on the trains and if so, is it possible and how does one go about it?
6) Is it possible to do a day trip to Kamakura on day 14 from Kyoto?

Thank you for your response
Arvind

Hi Arvind,

1.) I think a 7 day JR Pass from day 4 to day 10 would give you the best value. this part of your trip is where you cover the most distance and travel cost.

2.) I would say so, all these trips are pretty straight forward. Nothing odd :)

3.) Restrictions in what sense? The only I can think of is that no Nozomi trains are included between Tokyo - Kyoto but you can use the Hikari trains instead. These travel the exact same route but stop at a couple more stations.

4.) Not all local trains have Green Class seats. Such as Kyoto - Nara and local JR lines within Tokyo. You will have Green Seats available on all longer distance trips. Such as to Kyoto, Kanazawa and to Hakone.

5.) Green Seats need to be reserved before boarding the train. Since you have to do so anyway, you may as well do so 1-2 days in advance to secure seating. You can do so at any ticket window. Show your pass and tell the staff when/where you wish to travel. They'll do the rest.

6.) Yes, Kamakura is easy to reach from Tokyo.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
