We (2adults 2 children(15 & 12) are arriving in Tokyo on evening of 21st May and departing evening of 5June. We are considering JR pass and best options. Our thoughts are Tokyo Kyoto Osaka awaji Island and possible side trips from Tokyo. We are interested in rural japan also. Do you have any suggestions for best itinerary to see a range and utilise the JR pass either 7 or 14. Many thanks

Hi there,
With these visits I would likely go for a 7 day JR Pass for travel to Kyoto, Osaka and back. These are the most expensive routes and it makes sense using a JR Pass for them.
If you have some time, I would recommend making a visit to Koya-san. Here you can get a feeling of rural Japan and stay with a temple.
