Dear Sir,

I am planning a trip to Japan in October and the the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route is on my itinerary. I will be in Japan for 3 weeks and will start my holiday from Toyama. I plan to buy the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Option ticket and start the journey from Toyama. However I note that this Option ticket ends at Ogizawa where there is a regular bus to JR Shinano Omachi station. Please advise me how I can return to Toyama from here as I am unable to find any connection. Thank you.

Hi Chris,

There's no direct route back to Tateyama. You could either do the Alpine route again in reserve, or travel up by train from Shinano-Omachi to Itoigawa and then to Tateyama.

Thank you very much Danielsan. I checked further the and realised that I can take the Alpicobus from Shinano-Omachi to Nagano and then take the Hokuriku Shinkansen from Nagano to Toyama. My question is:

1) As I am not sure of the time of arrival of the bus in Nagano , do I need to make a seat reservation for the Hokuriku Shinkansen because I notice there is 2 fare for seat and one for reservations. Can I just arrive at Nagnao station and book the ticket for the next train to Toyama.

Hi Christ,

1.) Most trains on the Hokuriku Shinkansen do NOT require a reservation, the only train that does is the Kagayaki Shinkansen.
Reservations can be made at any JR station, such as Nagano, Shinano-Omachi, Kanazawa or any other.
