Hakone to Matsumoto by jr train

We plan to go from Hakone to Matsumoto on 21 of October 2018. What is the best way with jr pass, including timetable and price. Thanks.

Hi there,

From where in Hakone? General I'd advise using the Shinkansen from Odawara to Tokyo, then take a local train to Shinjuku and from there the ltd. express train Azusa to Shinjuku.

Didn't understand your advice: you suggest we take Azusa from shinjuku to shunjuku? is there no way by jr train from tokyo station to matsumoto?

Hi there,

The Azusa is a ltd. express train operated by JR East. So it is covered by the JR Pass. There is no direct train from Tokyo station.

one more question please: would it not be faster to go from Odawara to Nagoya by shinkansen, than from Nagoya to Matsumoto by shinono ltd. express?
