15 days in Japan - itinerary check

Hi,

We'd also like to check if it's the right decision to get a 7 or 14 day pass, or just buy individual tickets.

We'll be in Japan for 15 days,

Day 1 - From Narita airport to Tokyo
Day 4 - from Tokyo to Kyoto
Day 5 - possibly a day trip from Kyoto to Otsu and back (but this might not happen)
Day 7 - Kyoto back to Tokyo

Day 15 - Tokyo to Narita airport

We're guessing that the 14 day pass is definitely not worth it, but would a 7 day pass worth our first 7 days' plans?

Hi there,

Here is how much it would cost if you bought your tickets separately:

Narita Airport --> Tokyo ¥ 3,140
Tokyo --> Kyoto ¥ 13,720
Kyoto Otsu (optional) ¥ 380
Kyoto --> Tokyo 13,720

This adds up to ¥ 30960 the 7-day JR Pass is ¥ 28,300 so you would save ¥ 2660 + any local travel you may do on JR lines in Tokyo. Of course the pass makes a nice souvenir too :)

Thanks for the quick answer Daniel-san! You're a great help :) We will be buying the pass then. If we're travelling in March, should we buy the pass now, or wait until closer to March?

Glad to hear you found it useful!

You have 90 days to activate your pass from the day it is printed, so you can buy it now or wait a little longer if you have not yet finalized you plans. Either way you are fine!
