Super Nintendo World to open at Universal Studios Japan

The first Super Nintendo World will open at Universal Studios Japan later this year. Bringing the even popular game to a real life experience, featuring iconic locations and characters like the Bowsers Castle, Mario Kart racing and a Yoshi-themed ride.

Universal Studios (USJ) in Osaka is one of the most popular theme parks in Japan. The park already has 8 themed sections, including Harry Potter’s wizard world. Now, together with Nintendo their newest addition will be Super Nintendo world, bringing many of Nintendo’s iconic characters to real life.

Just watching that makes your inner Mario fan come alive. Combining nostalgia with a full modern decor. It’s clear that the park will be fun for everyone.

When will Super Mario Japan open?

While no date had been set, the opening is expected for fall 2020.

As of writing the following attractions have been announced:

With many more yet to come. The park will also bright a whole new level of interactiveness. Grab a Power Up Band and start collecting progress as you explore the park, by interacting with a multi-level game area filled with one-of-a-kind challenges! You can also keep score of mini games you play. In addition to the Power Up Band, download the parks app to bring your unlocks home with you.

How to access Universal Studios in Osaka

Universal Studios has its own JR translation called Universal city station, and is only a 20-minute train ride from Osaka station and fully covered by the JR Pass.

Coming from other cities, you’ll want to use the Shinkansen bullet trains to Shin-Osaka station. Use a local JR lines to Osaka station and there board the train bound for Sakurajima and get out at Universal city station. There’s even a special Universal styled train on the route, so it will be hard to miss.

One thing is certain, Super Mario Land at Universal Studios Osaka will be a must-visit on your next trip to Japan.
