Hi there,

You plans look good. How about stopping at either Osaka or Kyoto on the way down to Hiroshima? Doing this would split your trip up nicely as you are travelling down and up country.

Hope this helps!

Something like this should be a good base for you:

  1. Tokyo > Takayama
  2. Takayama > Kanazawa
  3. Kanazawa > Osaka
  4. Osaka > Hiroshima/Miyajima
  5. Hiroshima/Miyajima > Kyoto
  6. Kyoto
  7. Kyoto > Tokyo

You can move the extra day in Kyoto to any of the places you'd like to stay in long (eg, Osaka), and move things around as needed.

Hope this helps!

Hi Mari,

Many thanks for the last suggestion.

Our itinerary will be as follows:

4 night in Tokyo
28 May from Tokyo to Kanazawa
29 May from Kanazawa to Kyoto
31 May from Kyoto to Hiroshima (miyajima)
1 June from Hiroshima to Oska
3 June from Oska to Tokyo

Can you inform me how the wide view train is called? We would like to take this train from Tokyo to Kanazawa.
And with the JR pass can we also take the bullet train right?
Maybe you can help us out with a train schedule?

Thanks for all the help and it;s amazing that you can reply to so many questions.

Regards
Didi

Hi Didi,

For the WideView, you'll need to get to Nagoya first. Here's a sample itinerary for you from Tokyo through to Kanazawa via WideView. The WideView use is not the fastest way however, which is covered by this route.

The JR Pass can be used on all bullet train lines so you will be fine for your itinerary. Please note that you will not be able to use Nozomi class bullets, but there are always alternative class bullets (Sakura, Hikari, Kodama) that cover the same lines and travel at the same top speeds.

You may want to think about stopping at either Hiroshima or Kanazawa, but maybe not both. Your current 7 day schedule is quite full, and would benefit from more time spent at some of the locations, especially when you have long journeys, such as the Tokyo > Kanazawa leg.

To build a full schedule, you can look up precise train timetables and costs at the Hyperdia travel planning website and learn how to use Hyperdia through our video blog. I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have as you build your route!

Hope this helps!

Hello, is it quicker to go to Hiroshima from Kyoto as opposed to from Tokyo?
