Reaching Shirakawa-go

Hello,
I am travelling from Nikko and was wondering what would be the best way to reach Shirakawa village. I've already checked hyperdia and would take the Shinkansen Hakutaka from Omiya station passing through Nagano, but I am not sure what would be the best place to take the bus to Shinkansen. If it would be from Toyama or Kanazawa.

Hi there,

Kanazawa and Takayama have the most frequent bus services with Shirakawa-go. Reaching Takayama from Tokyo is around 240minutes while Kanazawa is just 177 Minutes. So my advise would be to travel via Kanazawa.

Thanks, that´s helpful.
We will travel to Shirakawa-go and from there to Kamikochi, going to Takayama after, and this might be out of this forum ambit, but maybe you can point me out the right direction. I was thinking there might be some kind of pass between these 3 places for the bus. Do you have any idea on that?

Hi again!

I am not aware of any bus pass here. I am also not aware of any direct buses from Shirakwago to Kamikochi, as far as I know you always have to travel and make a transfer at Takayama or Matsumoto.

The bus company is called nohi bus: http://www.nouhibus.co.jp/english/

Maybe you could ask them directly.
