Hi, our plan is this:

7 july- arrive in tokyo, narita airport.. stay the night in tokyo
8 july- leave to kyoto
9 july- day trip to nara
10 july- kyoto
11 july- go back to tokyo
12 july-tokyo
13 july- tokyo
14 july-leave tokyo

It is better to get the JR pass for 7 days right? Is this the best itinerary? If possible, some tips of what we should not miss in those places?
Thank you so much!! This website is awesome.

Hello there,

That looks like a solid itinerary. It's smart to start with travel the first couple of days and spend the later days in Tokyo. This works great for shopping and will feel you more relaxed when the holiday ends.

In Tokyo, a visit to Asakusa, Ginza, Harajuku, Shinjuku and Shibuya is almost a must.

Asakusa, is an older area of Tokyo and visiting the local temple is great.

Ginza is the high road for shopping will all kinds of luxery.

Harajuku is where you will find the more extreme youth culture at and the Meji Shrine.

Shibuya is the center of youth culture and fashion, also the famous Shibuya crossing is there.

Shinjuku is the most busiest part of Tokyo and amazing all around.

For Nara see:

Hope this helps,
Daniel

You are great Daniel! Thank you so much for your tips. Do you think we should go to osaka too when we are in Kyoto? I think I read somewhere that it is close... but we only have three days in kyoto and in one we are going to Nara....
Thank you again.

Hi again!

I think 2 days Kyoto and 1 day Nara will be enough. Osaka is great to visit but you will see a lot of city life already in Tokyo.

In you do want to visit Osaka, consider making a half day visit to the Namba/Shinsaibashi/Dotonbori area. This is the most lively area in Osaka with all kinds of shops from the big departments stores to the small boutique. There's also a lot of great food to be had.

Hi Daniel-san!
I have one final question... I am about to buy the JRPass, but I am afraid it won't get to my house in time. I am traveling in 3 days to the US and from there I will go to Japan. I was wondering if it needs to be sent somewhere or is there an option to get the pass from the narita airport when we arrive in japan. If it must be shipped, then maybe it is a better idea to have it shipped to the US right?
Oh, and the JRPass lets me use all the JR lines right? Such as the JR west, south, etc....
Thank you so much!!!! I will wait for an answer before I can buy it.

Hi again!

Glad to hear it! I especially like Hiroshima, it is not that hard to visit and there's a lot worth visiting. You can also visit the close by Miyajima Island from there. Also worth considering is Naoshima Island.
