Greetings,
Due our airline canceled our return flight to Spain scheduled for March 28th, we were bassically obligated to take a return flight on march 20, which was our last chance to come back to our country according to the airline in this extreme Coronavirus situation. That means we won't be able to use our Japan Rail Passes because we are no longer in Japan. Unfortunately, we validated the passes on a JR office on March 19th, being March 23th (today) the first day of use of it. Due to us being forced to leave the country due Japan closing frontiers with Spain and the airline cancelling our scheduled tickets, we are no longer in the country, this is beyond our control, and we never used the passes nor will be able to. They haven't even been stamped. We would like to know if there is any chance to get a refund in this exceptional case with Coronavirus, as this is beyond our control and we just couldn't do anything about this situation.
This was very hurtful for us, not only because the money investment this was, but because we just were no longer to use it.

Hi Javier,

I'm sorry to hear about this. Unfortunately I'm unable to help you with this on the forum. Once you activate the JR Pass generally no refunds are possible.

Once activated the only point that can give you a refund is the station where you activated the JR Pass, and perhaps the JR group member who operates the station. You could try contacting the JR Group member (like JR East, JR West etc) to see if there's an option there. Alternatively, ask your travel insurance.

Kind regards,
Daniel
