Here's a quick breakdown of ticket prices.

Kansai Airport - Osaka ¥ 1,190
Osaka - Nara ¥ 800
Nara - Hiroshima ¥ 11,090
Hiroshima - Miyajima return ¥ 1,140
Hiroshima - Okayama ¥ 6,020
Okayama - Kansai Airport ¥ 11,310

For a total of ¥ 31,550 or ¥ 2,440 in savings as the 7 day JR Pass is ¥ 29,110. Remember that the JR Pass is also valid for local travel within Osaka, adding even more!

Thanks for your prompt reply.

According to the hyperdia timetable the fare from kansai airport to namba (nakai) is 920 yen. And the fare from osaka namba to nara via kintetsunara is 560 yen.

Would appreciate if you could clarify the difference in the price quoted to me?

I have also checked with the local agent for JR pass in Malaysia and they have advised me to travel by private railway during my first day in Osaka and second day travel to nara. I should then activate my 4 days sanyo pass on the 3rd day when i travel to Hiroshima and subsequently back to Kansai airport.

Am a bit confuse on the conflicting advise.

I would be more than happy to give you clarification. The prices I quoted are based on JR tickets. Sometimes there are alternative routes available with other companies. Since the JR Pass is valid for JR lines only, it makes sense to compare against JR tickets. Listing every alternative simply is not viable. Also you mentioned staying in Osaka in your first post, so I used Osaka station. Going to Namba does change prices as well.

Staying at Namba does change things. The JR gives great access to Nara, Kyoto and Osaka from Osaka station. However from Namba there are less connections available and sometimes using an other company can this make sense.
