tateyama kurobe alpine route

Hi there!

JR doesn't cover the actual tateyama route (which is only operated by private bus and mountain tram lines), but you can get to both the start and end of the route on JR.

Here's a possible itinerary for you to check:

1. At Kyoto, get the JR express to Toyama (2.5 hours approx)
2. follow the non-JR Tateyama kurobe alpine route
3. at Shinano-Omachi, take the JR trains back to Kyoto

This trip will be fairly taxing to do in a single day, but should be possible if you set off early before 9. As an alternative, how about staying ovenight in Toyama or nearby to split the trip?
