Hi again mari!

so im going to japan may 14 to 31. starting my pass 18th. Can I buy 2 2day tokyopasses upon arrival at narita? Does that cover limited express to tokyo from narita? if not, I heard about this deal for foreigners buying a narita-tokyo ticket which jncludes a Jr 'seitei' card

Thanks again

Hi Jason,

Great to hear!

You can only buy 1 x 2 day tourist discounted metro pass upon arrival in Tokyo (I know, it's a bit silly...). You can purchase the 2 day metro pass with the Keisei Skyliner to get you into Tokyo from Narita.

The other option that you mention is the [Narita Express + Suica metro prepaid card]deal. This is similar in terms of cost, but rather than 2 days of full metro cover, it gives you ¥1500 of metro and JR travel which can be used however you like and offers travel into Tokyo on the Narita Express rather than the Keisei Skyline train. You can also use the Suica card to purchase food from convenience stores.

I think if you're going to be in Tokyo for more than a few days, the NEX + Suica is possibly a better choice. Bear in mind that as it's a limited prepaid card (rather than infinite use day pass) it very much depends on your travel plans - break out the calculator ;)

Hope this helps!

Hey mari,

Doing my final prep, was looking into transport into diff cities.

Just to clarify, does the jr pass cover the kintetsu company?

Also, with the cities, can I get around kyoto, nara, osaka using just the jr pass alone, or do I need to buy passes for each city?

arigatou!

Hi there!

The JR Pass only covers JR lines, and so Kintetsu trains are not covered.

For Kyoto, Osaka and Nara you will be able to get between these cities, but within the cities you will need to purchase tickets for the Metro or Bus as needed.

For Kyoto you can purchase a bus or metro pass once you arrive at the station (see the Tourist information at the station for more on this). For Nara you will need to purchase bus tickets as needed. Osaka has JR lines within it that you can use, but you will need to purchase metro tickets for using the metro.

As an alternative to tickets, you should also take a look at the Kansai Thru Pass, which covers virtually all non-JR lines in the Kansai area (Osaka, Kyoto and Nara are covered), including all buses and metro services. Please note that you'll really need to do a lot of travel to make the most of this pass, so in general I recommend purchasing tickets as needed.

Hope this helps!
