I am traveling to Japan for 8 nights/9 days in Japan with family. Our plan is visit Tokyo first for 3 nights, maybe 1 night in Hakone then visit Kyoto and Osaka for remaining time.
What is your recommendation on activating Japan Rail pass as I wanted to get 7 day pass and not 14 days? Do you suggest using Tokyo Metro for couple of days then activate Japan Rail pass for last 7 days?

What about after Osaka? Will you return to Tokyo to fly out of there or return from Kansai airport?
If you do return to Tokyo, then a 7-day JR Pass is worth considering, but not if you only go one way Tokyo - Kyoto. A daily metro pass, or local transport pass is a good idea in Tokyo if you plan on travelling around.

Sorry, I forgot to mentioned that yes we are coming back to Tokyo after Osaka visit.
Do you think I should get two-days metro pass then activate 7 days Japan pass?
