Traveling around Kansai area

We are so excited that we will be arriving in just a couple of days! Here is our itinerary:

Jul 18 THR Kansai airport to OSAKA (Shin-Osaka Station) (our hotel is right there)
Jul 19 FRI OSAKA (local excursion)
Jul 20 SAT Shin-Osaka Station - KYOTO (day trip Gion Festival) - Shin-Osaka Station
Jul 21 SUN Shin-Osaka Station- KOBE - Shin-Osaka Station
Jul 22 MON Shin-Osaka Station- UNO- NAOSHIMA
Jul 23 TUE NAOSHIMA - Shin-Osaka Station
Jul 24 WED - Shin-Osaka Station to Kansai Airport

I think we should get the 7 days JR West Kansai Wide Area Pass (7000 yen), right? Do we need to get separate tickets for the Kansai Airport? Does the pass also work for the trains from Shin-Osaka Station to UNO? How about ferry? Do we need to reserve seats in advance?

Hi Wanyee,

The Kansai Area Pass is indeed a smart buy for your plans. However do note that the JR West Kansai Wide Area Pass (7000 yen) is only valid for 4 days and does not allow for seat reservations in advance.

So I would suggest to start using the JR West Kansai Wide Area Pass as of Jul 21, travel to Uno is covered but not the ferry. You can then also use the pass to travel back to Kansai Airport. You may find a Haruka + Icoca package useful for your first couple of days in Kansai, as it includes a ride from Kansai Airport to Shin-Osaka on the Haruka express as well as a prepaid travel card which you can use on all kinds of transport throughout Japan.
