hi
our itinerary is as follows
august 10 arrive Narita
august 11 travel to Kobe
august 13 travel to Kyoto
august 16 travel to Hakone
august 17 to Tokyo
august 20 one night at Mt Fuji
august 21 return to Tokyo
august 22 return to USA

would you advise a 7 or 14 day JR PASS?'
additionally, can I purchase pocket WIFI at NARITA when I arrive on Thursday as it is too late to order online?

thank you very much, rose

Hi there,

I recommend a 7 day JR Pass for travel from day 11 to day 17. You will be covering a good distance here with frequent travel and the JR Pass will help you make savings compared to purchasing normal tickets.

It is possible to buy WiFi directly at Narita Airport but the online rate is about 30% lower. Please send us a mail at [email protected] and we can likely still set it up for August 10th.

Kind regards,
Daniel

hi Daniel,

Thank you,
i appreciate your valuable advice.

in your expertise, any additional recommendations to our itinerary? would you make any changes to our itinerary?
Do you think it is easily doable to do a one day trip from Kyoto to the art islands neshima/taoshima ? how would we get there; what would be the route and is this covered on the jr pass?

thank you again,
all the best,
rose

Hi Rose,

It would be hard to change much, as it would mean cutting down your time elsewhere. That said a trip to Naoshima if done right would be a rather nice addition. You could do it as day trip from Kyoto if you leave very early and return late, or better yet, spend the last night there before doing back to Tokyo.

The fastest route would be to use the Shinkansen from Kyoto to Okayama, from there a local train to Uno and the ferry from there to Naoshima. Same for the route back. If you want to stay the night there, then you could also consider staying in Takamatsu and use the ferry from there. The route is a bit longer but very scenic, traveling over the long Seto Ohashi bridge.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
