What passes are suitable for this itinerary?

Hi,

I will be in Japan with my husband and six year old daughter from 15 to 23 December 2015. We are arriving in Tokyo (Haneda) and departing Japan from Kansai. Our planned itinerary as of now is as follows:

15 Dec - Arrival in Tokyo. Staying for two nights.
17 Dec - Shinkansen to Shin-Osaka. Taking a train to our apartment in the Namba area. Two nights stay.
19 Dec - Train to Kyoto. Staying for four nights. Thinking of also visiting Nara and Shirakawago from Kyoto as day trips.
23 Dec - Train to Kansai airport

My questions are:
1. Will getting a JR pass for this trip be worth it? Are there any other passes I can consider?
2. Any other suggestions for possible places to visit that are suitable for a young child? Especially areas where there will be snow in mid Dec. We've been to Japan twice before but was both times only in the Tokyo area.
