Hello
I would like to know if I can purchase a shinkansen (bullet train) ticket online from osaka to kyoto and from kyoto to osaka so it can save me the hassle of puchasing them in Japan.
Also, I am planning to do a day trip from Osaka to Kyoto in January 2017, around 14 or 15 January 2017.
Can anyone advise the activities to do in a day trip?

Hi there,
It is not possible to buy rail tickets online, unless you speak Japanese.
Most visitors simply reserve their tickets at any JR station.
Also, Shin-Osaka to Kyoto is about 30 minutes by train and I recommend using a rapid service local train (560yen) instead of the Shinkansen (~2,600yen). Both are about as fast but the first is a lot cheaper.
While near Osaka station, I would recommend visiting the Umeda Sky building. There are also nice shopping malls nearby if you like shopping.
