Hi guy, have a few questions in mind, hope you can help. First off, our flight will be arriving at Narita Airport Terminal 2 at 8pm on Wednesday night. Here are my questions:

  1. Can I buy a JR Kanto Pass using my credit card(mastercard or visa) at the JR Ticket Offices (Midori-no-Madoguchi)? The office is open til 945pm right?

  2. I will be using my JR Kanto Pass to take the Narita Express to Shinjuku, can I make the reservation on the spot or do I need to purchase everything online? We will be traveling in a group of 8 people.

  3. We will be going to Gala Yuzawa the following day, can I purchase the Gala Option Ticket(¥1,000) as well at the JR Ticket Offices (Midori-no-Madoguchi) and make a reservation on the spot for the Shinkansen to Gala Yuzawa the next day for all of us?

  4. On our third day, we will be going to Gotemba Premium outlets. Can we use our JR Kanto Pass as well? What are the train/s we need to ride? What is the fastest way using our JR Kanto Pass to get there?

Hope someone can answer all the questions, thank you so much.

Hi there,

1.) Yes! All major credit-cards are accepted.

2.) You can make the reservations once you buy the pass at the Midori-no-Madoguchi or JR Travel center.

3.) Please purchase this additional option at the same time when purchasing the JR Kanto Pass. You may also reserve the Shinkansen at this time.

4.) The JR Kanto Pass does not cover the full way to Gotemba. The most convienient option with the Kanto Pass is to take a local service to Kouzu station and from there take the JR Gotemba line to Gotemba. You can pay the additional fare when exiting the station. This will be around ¥ 670 per person. Here is the full route.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Regarding question #4, we will be traveling from Shinjuku Station to Gotemba Station. From Shinjuku Station, taking the JR Shonan-Shinjuku Line(Via Tokaido Line) to Kozu then transferring to the JR Gotemba Line to JR Station roughly takes 130mins and there is a supplemental fee of ¥670? No reservation required?

What if we take the Odakyu Ltd Exp Asagiri from Shinjuku to Gotemba and vise versa? It only takes 96mins and no transfer required. Will we be able to use our JR Kanto Pass for this route? How much would the supplemental fee be?

Thank you.

Hi again!

The JR Kanto Pass is not valid on the Odakyu line (it's a non JR company) and you'd basically have to pay for the full fare, so the route I linked in better if you wish to travel on a budget. From Kozu the fare will indeed be around 670yen.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
