Hi!
My mom and I will be going to Japan in a couple of months and we are not sure which pass we should get.
We will be landing in Narita and we will go to Kyoto the same day.
We will be staying in Kyoto for a week but we want to travel to Osaka, Nara, Hiroshima and some other places near Kyoto. After a week we will be heading back to Tokyo, where we will be staying for another week before our departure back.

Hi there,
Assuming you complete all the above travel within 7-days, then the Japan Rail Pass is your best option.
Should you need more time, then normal tickets between Tokyo - Kyoto + a Kansai - Hiroshima Area Pass is a great alternative.
