Should we get 2 week JR Pass?

Hello - we are planning our 2nd trip to Japan as noted below and I am wondering if it is worth getting the 2 week JR Pass for travel with the itinerary below that we activate for travel on 7/11 to Kanazawa and use to get back from Kansai area to Tokyo?

7/6 - 10 Narita to Tokyo (will take a day trip to Nikko)
7/11 - 14 travel from Tokyo to Kanazawa
7/14 - 16 Hakone
7/16 - 20 Kobe/Osaka (maybe day trip to Kyoto)
7/20 - 22 take bus from Osaka to Tokushima to visit family
7/22 - 24 Hiroshima & Miyajima
7/24 -25 maybe one night in Kyoto or Osaka
7/25 - 26 Tokyo then fly out from Narita

OR--Would we be saving more money by getting a 7 day JR Pass that we use for travel to Nikko, Kanazawa, Hakone and one way trip to Kansai area, and then buy regular tickets for the rest of the trip?

We are committed to the 7/20-22 dates to go to Shikoku which cuts into the value we might have gotten from a regional Kansai-Hiroshima pass.

Hello there,

How set are you in your planning? If you have some flexibility, consider moving Nikko for when you are in Tokyo near the end of your trip and move 1-2 days Tokyo there. Then you could maximize the use of a 14-day JR Pass and save money.

For Tokushima, the ride takes longer but is very scenic when taking the train and fully covered by the pass. So this could be another avenue to add value to your trip.

With your itinerary as it stands now (and not making any changes), I'd go with normal tickets as there's no regional pass that covers all your travel. For Example, the Kansai - Hiroshima pass is great for a return Kyoto to Hiroshima but since you are going down in Shikoku, this is not included, but you already know this :)
