Can you tell me if it is possible to get seats during the Matsuri, Feb 5-11 from Tokyo to Sapporo and back?

I want to book hotels in Sapporo but hesitate if the trains are gonna be sold out.

Hi there,

Yes it is possible to get train tickets from Tokyo - Sapporo. However do keep in mind that the entire route takes about 9-10 hours of train travel. These means you can't just make a day trip to Sapporo.

Daniel, thank you for that info. Another Q: Can foreign travelers purchase regular reserved seats not using the Rail Pass, i.e. using the Hayabusa Shinkansen, and can these tickets be purchased in advance of travel or arrival into Japan?

Hi again!

Generally it is not possible to buy tickets in advance outside of Japan.

Some trains run by JR East van be booked in advanced with and without a JRPass using:
