we are traveling as a family of 4 and somewhat limited time. We will be in Tokyo for 5 days then want to go from Tokyo to Hiroshima on a Sunday then from Hirsohima to Kyoto on a Monday evening then on Wed or Thurs go to Hakone and then back to Tokyo to depart.

What s the best way to do this? most affordable? fastest? Is green level worth the trouble and expense.

Lastly , when we were in Tokyo years ago we did the Hakone free pass and I would love my kids to experience that ropeway and the finicular..

Hi there,

I highly recommend getting familar with our JR MAP as you can see, the Tokaido / Sanyo Shinkansen line, that connect Tokyo to Hiroshima, Kyoto and even Hakone (Odawara station) on a single line that you can access with the JR Pass. A 7-day JR Pass is likely the best option for this route, together with a Hakone Free Pass.

Personally I love the extra quiet and confort that the railpass gives you, but it also depend on how much budget you have for the trip.

Yep I kind of understand that things are knowing that we don't have a ton of time. Is it worth saving the extra hour and a half I'm going on the fastest line from Tokyo to Hiroshima though that's not included in the JR pass.
Also, in terms of Hakone, should we get the free pass as well? Just for getting around that area
