Lost in translation?

Hi,

Before purchasing my rail pass I read the fine print but this confused me:

"Make sure to pick up your ticket by the start date. They cannot be picked up after the start day, regardless of the departure date of the train you specified."

I will arrive on May 16th at KIX at 7:50pm so that is my start date is it ok to exchange my voucher for my rail pass on that day? I would think that up to and including your start date would be clearer. Sorry if i sound like i am being difficult but I don't want to stuff things up it's a lot of money.
