Hi there,

Need some advice here...

4/2 6 am Tokyo Narita airport to Kyoto
5/2 Kyoto
6/2 Kyoto to Osaka
7/2 Osaka
8/2 Osaka to Kawaguchiko
9/2 Kawaguchiko
10/2 Kawaguchiko to Tokyo
11/2 Tokyo
12/2 Disneyland
13/2 Disneysea
14/2 Tokyo back to Narita 8 pm flight

Can you advise on what passes to purchase to make the trip cost efficient? Was looking at JR Pass for the first 7 days of the trip and kinda lost on what to do about the transport for the last leg of the trip.

Thanks in advance!

Hello there.

A 7 day JR Pass would indeed be a great idea for your travel to Kyoto and Osaka. The 7 day JR Pass is about the same price as a normal return ticket Tokyo - Kyoto on the Shinkansen, in other words, all the additional travel you will do is what you save.

If I could make a suggestion about visiting Kawaguchiko, consider visiting it as a day trip from Tokyo or otherwise travel to Kawaguchiko via Tokyo, as it is not easy to access from Kyoto/Osaka. My suggestion would be to return to Tokyo from Osaka and then travel on to Kawaguchiko. To travel to Kawaguchiko from Tokyo, travel to Otsuki station and from there take the Fujikyu railway line to Kawaguchiko.

Here is the route from Osaka, if you do want to make the trip in one go.

An alternative is to travel with the Shinkansen to Mishima station and take an express bus from there. This will involve less transfers but cost more as the bus is not covered by the JR Pass. The travel time is about the same, depending on what time of day you travel.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thanks for the reply Daniel!

By the way, for the travelling in tokyo do you think a suica would be enough since I'm thinking of staying in nishikasai area, it's nearer to disneyland, and I'll most probably be going to places like shibuya, shinjuku, harajuku, asakusa etc. It'll be used for traveling in tokyo on the 11/2 and 14/2, since 10/2 is still covered by the 7 days jr pass.

Hi again!

Yes using Suica to travel around sounds like a great idea. It will also make travel easier if you use other transport such as the Tokyo Metro or bus. Local travel is low price (compared with the Shinkansen) and usually less than 200yen per ride.
