Hi Daniel-san:
My wife and I are going to the following places in Oct 2018, landing at Kansai Airport:
-Osaka - Nara (maybe day trip) -Kyoto We are also thinking of visiting Wakayama & the Kii Peninsula (also day trip) for some trekking as we enjoy walking.
My questions are:
- Is 15 days sufficient for all the places? - Is the sequence of places ok or it would make more sense to rearrange them? -Will a JR pass be useful for our travels? If is is, what JR pass should we get? Thank you,
David Pan

Hi David Pan,

All your travel is within the Kansai and Kii area's. For travel I would look at either:

Kansai Area Pass. Useful for travek from KIX, to Osaka, Nara, Kyoto and Wakayama.

Ise-Kumano-Wakayama Area Tourist Pass. Useful for all of the above and the Kii peninsula.

Overall, I think 15 days is a very generous amount of time to explore this area. You could even add some more places if you want.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thank you Daniel-san for your advice. If we wish to go to the Tateyama Alpine route from Kyoto or Osaka, do you think it's possible? If it is, what is the best way to do it?
Thank you.

Hi David,

You could add the Alpine route but I think I'd reserve at least 2 night for it. One to travel to Tateyama, stay the night there, then do the route the following day and stay somewhere at the end of the route. Though it would be possible to return to Kyoto after finishing it if you depart early enough.

Thank you, Daniel-san,
May I know if travelling to & from Tateyama is covered by the kansai-area-pass & ise-kumano-wakayama-area-tourist-pass. If not which is the best way to travel?
Thank you.

Hi,

This is not included, it would likely be best to buy normal tickets for this part, as there's not really a pass that would match this with your other travel.

Hi Daniel-san, I wonder if the Kansai-Hokuriku Area Pass would be better if we are covering the Kansai region & the Tateyama Alpine route? Would the pass give us some savings? Would greatly appreciate your help. Thank you.

Hi David,

It does not cover the Tayeyama Alpine route but could give you some savings going to Kanazawa :)
