Questions about my trips with Shinkansen

Hi,

I will visit Japan with my family ( total 4 ) from April 2 - April 15. We will buy 4 Green Rail passes.

I am confused about the Shinkansen departure and arrival times between several cities:

Question: We want to leave on April 6 early morning from Osaka to Nagasaki
How long does it take by Shinkansen to get there ? Is it still possible to take the 07.00 a.m. Shinkansen which arrives in Nagasaki at 11.48 am ?

2) From Nagasaki on April 7 around 4 pm to Hiroshima
3) From Hiroshima on April 8 around 3 pm to Kyoto
4) From Kyoto on April 10 around 10 a.m. to Kanazawa
5) From Kanazawa to Shirakawago and Gokanyama an onwards to Takayama On April 11.
6) From Takayama to Tokyo on April 12 around 1 pm

I tried to use Hyperdia but cannot work it out.

Can you please help me.

Hi Seven,

I really recommend learning to plan with Hyperdia, we have a guide here to learn the basics in case you are having problems. Note that Hyperdia is not yet updated for April so its better to look for routes today. They should be as good as similar in April.

I also looked at the route Osaka - Nagasaki for you. As you can see you can arrive in Nagasaki before 11.48.

Note that there is no train to Shirakawago and Gokayama, here you can use the Nohi bus (not covered by the JR Pass).

I managed to use Hyperdia now. That helps a lot

I have three more questions:

Are there enough lockers at the rail ways stations where we can store our luggage whilst sight seeing ?
Are they big enough for a reasonable sized suitcase ?
Is it advisable to reserve seats in advance when travelling with green passes ?If so, how do we reserve seats and and how long in advance should we do this ?

Hi Seven,

Good to know that Hyperdia is clear now.

Lockers are on every rail station and there are lockers that can hold a suitcase. I've done so many times without problems.

For seat reservations: Green Seats are all by reservation. You can make reservations up to 5 minutes before departure but you can do so 1-2 days in advance as well. Either way is fine. Its only on national holidays that reservations should be made 3-4 days in advance.
