JR pass or Osaka pass + individual tickets

We are 3 adults planning to travel in Japan in June. We plan to land in Osaka, stay there 4 nights to do trips to Kobe, Kyoto and Nara. Then take bullet train to Mount Fuji, stay a night there and then take the train to Tokyo. May be 3 nights in Tokyo. Osaka pass at USD 60 for 4 days is good value and we can activate it from the airport itself. But JR pass min seems to be 7 days. How best can we do it? We may not need for our stay in Tokyo as we can buy individual subway tickets to explore around Tokyo but we have to get to Narita to catch our flight back home too. Please help us plan. Thanks.

Hi there!

In your case I would actually recommend buying a normal ticket for Osaka - Fuji - Tokyo, this because there's not enough travel for a JR Pass to pay off and travel cost within Tokyo is also very low. For the rest you could either use some local passes, such as the Osaka Unlimited pass or just buy tickets for travel within the city.

In Tokyo you could consider the 1 Day Metro pass for just 710yen that allows for unlimited rides on the Tokyo Metro for one day and offers good value if you plan to sight-see a lot.

Hi Again!

Giving the exact price from Osaka - Fuji and Fuji to Tokyo is hard to say as it depends what area around Fuji you wish to visit. There's not just one station for Fuji. However I can give you an estimate.

Osaka - Tokyo is ¥ 14,250. You could just stop on the route and have a look at Fuji from there. Alternatively getting closer to the mountain would require additional transport which could cost anywhere between 2,000 - 6,000 yen.
