Is 7-Day JR Pass enough?

Hello,

I'll travel to Japan from 03/25 (but arrive in Japan 03/ 26) - 04/02. This is my itinerary:

03/26 I'll arrive at Narita airport at 5pm .
4 days in Shibuya, Shinjuku, Harajuku, Hakone - Mt Fuji...
2 days Kyoto and Osaka. Back to Shibuya on 04/02 to take care some business and catch 1pm flight from Narita Airport back to US.

My question is if I activate my JR Pass on 03/26 at 5pm to use the train to go to my hotel, does my JR Pass still valid on 04/02 at 1pm so I can use the train to go to Narita Airport?

My trip is 8 days 7 nights in Japan.

Hi there!

The validity of the JR Pass is counted in days (opposite to hours) and the first day is counted as a full day, no matter what time you start using it. Given this I would recommend to start using the JR Pass on your 2nd day in Japan and buy a normal ticket into Tokyo for your arrival. For this a 1,500yen ticket could be very useful.

Thank you Daniel-San for your quick reply. Since I can't used it on the 1st day, can I still just activate it and choose 03/27 is the beginning day for use of the pass while I am at Narita airport? If I can't, where is the place in Shibuya that I can activate my pass?

Hi there!

You can either activate it at Narita Airport upon arrival and select a start day at a later point of time. Or you can activate it at the JR Information center @ Shibuya station between 10:00-18:30.
