Confused by rail passes!!

I would really appreciate your help in determining what rail pass is best to buy and confirming which routes will be included!

My itinerary is as follows:

Narita Airport - Tokyo
Tokyo - Mt Fuji (Hakone)
Mt Fuji (Hakone) - Takayama
Takayama - Kyoto
Kyoto - Hiroshima
Hiroshima - Miyajima Island
Hiroshima - Osaka

I would really appreciate any help and advise you could give me!

Hi Amy,

Not to worry - there's only one pass which will cover all of your travel which is the nationwide JR Pass. There are also regional passes but these are limited to a specific area.

The JR Pass if cover most, if not all of your travel. The only part where you may have to resort to other kinds of transport in within the Hakone area. You can use the JR Pass right up to the from door of Hakone which is Odawara station but it is better to use local transport such as local railways, buses and even a rope-way or two for travel around Hakone.

You did not tell me how many days you'll be staying in Japan but either a 7 Day or 14 Day JR Pass would be of great usage.

We are there for 16 days so I think we will need to buy a single ticket from the airport into Tokyo and then start the JR pass after a couple of days in Tokyo
