7day JR pass or pay for each individual trip?

Hi there,

I will be a first time traveler to Japan with my travel partner and we are very excited!

We are going in February and was wondering if it is necessary to obtain a 7day JR pass or pay for each individual trip?

Day 1: Arrive Narita Airport
Day 2 - 4: Tokyo (staying in Shibuya, exploring Tokyo)
Day 5: travelling to Kyoto
Day 5 - 8: Explore Kyoto
Day 9 – Travel to Hakuba via Matsimoto
Day 9 – Staying in Hakuba for 10 days

From Hakuba were catching a taxi back to Narita Airport

While were in Tokyo I was thinking of just buying a one way ticket from the airport to Shibuya and then using a Metro Suica card for day trips around the city. And then buying the JR pass for the Shinkansen.
