Dear Daniel,

I would appreciate your view on whether it would make sense to take a 14-day JR pass for the following itinerary:

12 April arriving at Osaka Kansai airport at 18:00 and going directly to Kyoto
staying in/around Kyoto until 17 April
going to Nagoya on 18 April
leaving Nagoya on 20 April and heading to Tokyo
leaving Tokyo from Narita on 25 April

Hi Vesna,

For this itinerary I'd stick to buying normal tickets. It's basically a one way route Kyoto - Tokyo as Nagoya is directly on the route. This means that travel cost would not amount up to a JR Pass.

For your arrival at Kansai Airport, I would recommend buying a Haruka + ICOCA package. This gives you a discounted ticket on the train to Kyoto and you can use the ICOCA card for local travel around Kyoto, Nagoya and Tokyo.
