We are a family of four (all over the age of 14) travelling to Japan for 16 days. Here is our itinerary:

Hakone
Kyoto
Takayama
Osaka - Nara
Hiroshima
Tokyo
Is JR pass (14 days) more economical than buying individual tickets? I realise that JR Pass cannot be used in Hakone.

Hi there,
Given that you'll be returning to Tokyo from Hiroshima, I'd suggest purchasing a 14-day JR Pass as this trip would likely make purchasing the pass a cost-effective option. Yes, Hakone isn't covered directly but the train up until Odawara is and then a (relatively small!) additional fare can be purchased there for the return trip to and from Hakone.
