Sapporo / Osaka/ Tokyo trip

This is a hard question to answer, as airfares depend on a lot of factors which make it nearly impossible to make a one-on-one comparison with the JR Pass. It also comes down to personal preference. Basically, the question you should ask yourself, is whether you prefer to travel by rail or air and everything surrounding both methods of transport. Rail transport is easier but may take longer, going by far my look faster but there are a lot of additional things to think about, like getting to the airport, waiting on customers and so on.

What I can tell you is that the JR Pass will be a very cost efficient way of travel if you decide to travel by train from Sapporo - Tokyo - Kyoto & Osaka.
