Hi all!

This is my first time travelling to Japan for 2 weeks (31 Oct to 14 Nov)

My flight is a round trip between Singapore & Tokyo Narita

I'm considering below route:

Narita > Osaka > Nara day trip > Kobe day trip > Kyoto day trips (2 days) > Hakone > Tokyo > Narita

Day 1-2: Osaka (stay in Osaka till day 6)
Day 3: Nara day trip
Day 4: Kobe day trip
Day 5-6: Kyoto day trips
Day 7-8: Hakone/Fuji 2d1n stay
Day 9 onwards: Tokyo

I'm thinking of getting JR pass for 7 days only activating it on day 1.

Q1) I'm considering getting JR pass 7 days. if i activate it on day 1, i can use till day 7 23:59? means i can still use my JR pass to travel to Fuji/Hakone?

Q2) From Hakone/Fuji to Tokyo, would the train pass be expensive?

Q3) Is above itinerary/route considered ok?

Mostly concerned with JR pass and the cost.

Thanks in advance!

Hi there,

Welcome to the forum, always good to see people planning their first trip to Japan.

1.) Yes, assuming you travel to Hakone on day 7.

2.) A one way from Fuji - Tokyo will cost you between 1.500-3.300 yen, depending on chosen transport (bus, train, fast train etc). In any case, it should not be a big impact on your travel budget.

3.) Yes, looks good.

Kind regards,
Daniel

Hi Daniel-san,

Thanks for your response.

Would like to check as I will be arriving Tokyo 31 Oct 3pm.
Will be collecting my JR pass at Narita and head down to Osaka from Narita.

I'm very concerned with the shinkansen being fully booked.
Would you be able to advise the likelihood of shinkansen being fully booked? I will need to book either last row with the baggage area or the certain seats that allow me to use the baggage compartment.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry*
Route is Narita -> Shinagawa -> Shin-osaka

would it be better if i go from Tokyo or Shinagawa in terms of concerns over the crowd and fully booked?

Hi there,

The starting station is Tokyo, so get on there if you want to take a non-reserved seat.

Trains rarely sell out on normal days, however, we do recommend reserving 3-4 days ahead of time if you travel during national holidays.

Otherwise, just get a reserved seat and it will not matter.

Kind regards,
Daniel
