Hi Daniel-San,

I'm currently planning my first Japan trip from late JAN to early FEB and would like to check if its possible to plan all my itinerary around the JR train network, would like to hear your thoughts. And would the JR PASS includes ferry ride to Itsukushima ? I would be arriving in japan via Narita Airport.

Places which I hope to visit using JR PASS and would like to start from the south and all the way up north

Nagasaki (2 days)
Hiroshima (2 days)
Himeji (day trip)
Osaka/Nara (3 days)
Sapporo (5 days)
Tokyo (4 days)
Maybe exploring some other town which is included in the JR PASS if I have enough time

If I purchase the 21 days standard JR PASS, does that means I get to ride on all JR trains and services without additional cost as many times as I want ?

Hi there,

Just to clarify, would you be going down to Nagasaki from Narita Airport? Or fly there and then use the JR Pass up? This would make a big difference in train fares. The JR Pass will take you there, but the travel time from NRT is quite long.

Even then, a 21-day JR Pass will help you save money as you're travelling a lot! Go up to Hokkaido will definitely pay for the pass. The JR Pass is truly unlimited, so you can spend as much time on the train as you like. The Ferry to Miyajima (Itsukushima).

Yep I intend to travel to Nagasaki from Narita using the JR train. My flight would arrive at Narita Airport at around 7am, and by the time I pass immigration and collected my luggage, it should be around 8am, Do you know roughly how long does it take to travel from Narita to Nagasaki ? And what are the general operating hours of Shinkansen and trains in Japan.
