What is our best option?

Hi Mary,

A JR Pass will be a good option if you go to Kyoto/Osaka but would not help you make savings if you stay only in Tokyo. I suggest making a decision before you go, this way you can travel cost efficiently.

Kind regards,
Daniel

Hi Daniel!

Thank you for quick response. Should we do the regional pass for Osaka-Tokyo or the all inclusive pass? What is the difference besides pricing?

Thank you,
Mary

Hi Mary,

This pass is only valid on the Hokuriku Arch route via Nagoya and Kanazawa. This takes quite a lot longer between Osaka - Tokyo then using the Tokaido route. The difference is about 3 hours.

The JR Pass is the better option, unless you want to make a stop or two on the Hokuriku route.

Hi Daniel!

Again, thank you for the quick response. This answers my question completely. We will go with the JR Pass instead of the regional one.

Thank you!
Mary

Hello again!

4 years go we went to Japan and now we are heading back for another visit this coming July! Where can I find cost of purchasing a ticket on the fast train to travel to Osaka/Kyoto. I am trying to see if we should do JR Pass or not. This time, we are traveling with a larger group. Also, do the trains travel late nights too?
