ICOCA prepaid card does it cover for limited or limited express train?

Hi Daniel San,

Need your assist my queries as follows:

Destination: Sagano Scenic Railway & Bamboo grove

Dept from: kintetsunippobashi station
Arr : Sagaarashimaya station

Train Line using checked from hyperdia route timetable.

1) kintetsu Nara Rapid Exp.
2) Hanshin Namba Line Rapid Exp. (At osaka namba stn)
3) Osaka Loop Line (outer loop) (at Nishijuko Stn to Osaka stn.
4) JR Special Rapid from Osaka stn to kyoto Stn.
5) JR Sagano Line from Kyoto stn to Sagaarashimaya.

May i use the icoca prepaid card but travel on different train express service??

Any fare adjustment while travelling on special rapid service??

If fare adjustment require what the basis supplementary fare payment??

During the train travel at various train station as mentioned above, do we need to exit from the ticket gate & transfer to another platform ??

Many thanks in advance of your assist as this my 1st travel to Japan & confusion on all type of passes.

Hello there,

All of these can be ridden using the ICOACA card. These trains however are not limited express trains, which generally need an extra fare, which can't be paid using ICOCA.

Special rapid trains are counted as local trains and don't require a limited express fare.

You will most likely have to change platform or even between company sections, however I don't have the exact information about this available.

Can you assist what type of Pass which more easily to use instead of icoca card for above mention train line??

Another alternative will use the icoca card thereafter by paying extra fare once arrive at the destination station.

What the sign to keep in loop that the extra fare need to be adjust? when exit for the ticket gate?
