In March 2024 I'll be in Tokyo for 7 days. My plan is to allocate 4 days to explore Tokyo and 3 days to go on 1-day trips as follows:
Day 1: Tokyo - Osaka (and return)
Day 2: Tokyo - Kyoto (and return)
Day 3: Tokyo - Hiroshima (and return).
Please note that I booked accommodation in Tokyo only, therefore on every trip I will return in the evening to Tokyo and spend the night there.
Moneywise, should I purchase a 7-day JR Pass or buy individual train tickets for each of those 3 trips?
Many thanks in advance.
Buy a 7-day JR Pass vs buy individual tickets
Hi there,
A JR Pass is fantastic value on this trip - however, you will be spending a good amount of hours on the train. Especially to Hiroshima.
Happy travels,
Daniel
I am well aware of the fact that I am going to spend 4 hours on the train to/from Hiroshima, but after a careful review of my options I decided this is the best option I have, rather than having to pack/unpack/carry my luggage and check-in/check-out my accommodation. I picked a hotel in the proximity of Tokyo Station in Chiyoda and I will enjoy the Japanese trains :) Many thanks, Daniel.
Personally, I love the trains in Japan. Just taking the ride is an experience, bring a good book, look at the landscape zoom by, and maybe some mobile games and you're all good, and before I forget, some good food :D
I will do that, I love the trains too, not just in Japan. But riding for the first time a Japanese train (a bullet train, more exactly) will be an amazing experience :)
