I would need some guidance for the following itinerary and the best way to approach this.
Departure Tokyo to Nagano on Sunday 22 January
Nagano to Kyoto Saturday 28 January - please suggest stops on the way to Kyoto that may be worthwhile, even for an overnight stay
Kyoto to Tokyo on Monday 30 January

Hi Eric,
Seems like a very good itinerary. If you can possibly reduce your travel time to cover 7 days (22-28), then you will be able to fit it into a 7 day japan rail pass and will make very good savings.

How about stopping in Kanazawa on the way to Kyoto from Nagano? It's a beautiful city with a really nice feel to it and would break your journey up well.
