I'm wondering what is the best JR pass for us to get or to pay individually

May 1 Tokyo Haneda to Tokyo
May 6 Tokyo to Honjo
May 7 Honjo to Matsumoto
May 9 Matsumoto to Takayama
May 12 Takayama to Kanazawa
May 14 Kanazawa to Kyoto
May 17 Kyoto to Hiroshima
May 19 Hiroshima to Kurashiki
May 20 Kurashiki to Osaka

Any suggestions?

Hello P,

You do have a lot of train travel planned from May 6th and onward. In the old days, I would have recommended a 21-day JR Pass but now that may not make sense in terms of savings.

Instead, I think the best option is to use normal tickets until you arrive in Kyoto, then use a Kansai - Hiroshima Area Pass for travel to Hiroshima, Kurashiki and Osaka. It also includes the ferry to Miyajima, should be be inclined to head that way.
