Thank you for your timely response. Last question. My granddaughter is currently going to school in Japan and has a temporary student visa, if I purchase a 7 day pass for her will she be able to validate it since she will not have a tourist visa /stamp when I arrive ?

Please be advised that the JR Pass can only be used by those who enter Japan under a tourist visa. Your granddaughter will NOT be able to use a JR Pass if she is in Japan under a tourist visa.
