it is better to purchase a rail pass or to purchase individual tickets for the following itinerary:
Day 1 Tokyo Asakusa - Odawara
Day 3 Odawara - Kyoto
Day 5 Kyoto - Nara - Kyoto
Day 6 Kyoto - Tokyo Ikebukuro
Day 7 Tokyo Ikebukuro - Narita Airport

Hello Lucian,
A 7 day JR Pass would work very well for this itinerary. A normal return ticket Tokyo - Kyoto is roughly the same price as a 7 day JR Pass. Now you get 7 days of unlimited travel for the same price, which you can also use for travel to Odawara, Nara and Narita Airport.
