Tokyo-Takayama-Kyoto-Osaka

Yes it is possible to use the JR Pass for the entire route, however I would suggest buying normal tickets as you travel since right now you would not cover the price of a JR Pass.

Normal tickets are as follows:

Tokyo - Takayama ¥ 14,200
Takayama - Kyoto ¥ 9,380
Kyoto - Osaka ¥ 540

Which is ¥ 24,120 all together. However a little more travel would make a 7 day JR Pass pay if as the pass itself is 28,300yen.

Say if we were to take the JR train from Narita Airport to Tokyo and returned from Osaka to Narita would it make up the difference. Thank you so much for your help it is very helpfull.

Yes I think it would! Using the Narita Express between Tokyo and Narita Airport is about ¥ 2,940 / one way. Adding a return would certainly help you to start making savings with a 7 day JR Pass. In addition adding just a way one Osaka - Narita Airport is about 16,000yen so in that case a JR Pass would be absolutely great! Also don't forget that you can use the pass for local travel around Osaka and Tokyo!
