JR Pass Suggestion

Hi there,

I need suggestion of tickets/pass to use.

This is my itinerary:
Day 1 Tokyo
Day 2 Tokyo to Kurobe-Unazukionsen
Day 3 Kurobe- Unazukionsen to Kanazawa
Day 4 Kanazawa to Shirakawago and return to Kanazawa
Day 5 Kanazawa to Tateyama Kurobe Alpine and return to Kanazawa
Day 6 Kanazawa to Takayama and return to Kanazawa
Day 7 Kanazawa to Aomori
Day 8 Aomori to Hirosaki and return to Aomori
Day 9 Aomori to Tokyo

For Day 2 to Day 6, I'm thinking of using the Hokuriku Arch Pass? For the rest of the days, should I be getting individual tickets or are there any other option?

Hi there,

Hokuriku Pass for those dates seems fine, for the rest of the days I would simply recommend purchasing your tickets individually.

Hi Alexis,

Thanks for your reply. With the Hokuriku Arch Pass, do we need to pay extra to reserve seats? JR East website mentioned that additional fee is required for use of Green Cars and GranClass. What about 'Reserved Seat'?

Hi again Alexis,

I have just been told by my local travel agent that I won't be able to reserve a seat until the JR pass is activated. What I'm getting from the travel agent is just a voucher of the pass. It has to be exchanged for the pass when we're in Japan. Therefore we're not able to reserve a seat until we are in Japan. Is that how it works? Are we able to activate the pass for the date that we intend to travel and also reserve the seats before leaving for Japan?
