JR Pass convenience

Hi there,

The JR Pass could be a great help if you can at least travel to Kyoto/Osaka and back to Tokyo with it. The JR Pass also covers all rail travel between the places you wish to visit, although you may still need local transport within cities.

The JR Pass can also be used for local travel within Tokyo and Osaka on the JR Network, in addition you can easily make a day trip if the fancy takes you.

Since you will be 9 days in Japan, be sure to use the 7 day JR Pass for the days when you will do the most travel.

I appreciate the immediate response. just a follow up, when i have it activated at the airport, will the date of use start from activation or from the start of using it? I may have to start using it 2 days after arrival as i will be lodged at a friend's house and i may not need to use it upon arrival. Since I will travel from May 23rd when do you suggest the best time to purchase it?

You can select the first day of use up to 30 days in the future, when you exchange the JR Pass. I would recommend ordering the JR Pass at least 2 weeks before departure. This way there's plenty of time for it to arrive.
