Hello I am travelling with my spouse on March 18-27. 6 days in Tokyo and 5 days in Osaka. Some were saying that it is not advisable to get a JRail Pass as it will not be useful for public transportation as it is a private one. I would like to know if we can use this when we travel anywhere in Tokyo and Osaka. Like going to special attractions and Theme parks like Disneyland and Universal Studios.

A 7-day JR Pass will start paying off if you make a return Tokyo - Osaka using the Shinkansen, as it is similar in price as a normal return ticket on this route.
You can use the JR Pass also on the local JR Network in cities like Tokyo and Osaka, but not other transport. Specifically, you can reach both Disneyland and Universal studio's using the JR Pass, though you may still need additional transport elsewhere.
The best question to ask here is whether you can make savings with the JR Pass, and not whether it covers every details of the trip.
