21 day JR Pass for our visit to Japan

Hello again

Needing some guidance again please, worked on our itinerary to cover as much of Japan as we can but still do so at a moderate pace.

Looking at purchasing the 21 JR Pass - can you confirm this will be our best option please. It's not easy working out which trains are avaiable for these transfers, so I appreciate your assistance.

Day 1 to 4 – TOKYO (late flight in on day 1)
Day 5 – TOKYO/NIKKO/TOKYO
Day 6 – TOKYO/KAMAKURA/TOKYO
Day 7 – TOKYO/HAKONE
Day 8 – HAKONE
Day 9 – HAKONE/KYOTO
Day 10 to 14 – KYOTO/NARA/KYOTO and KYOTO/KOYA-SAN/KYOTO
Day 15 – KYOTO/HIMEJI/HIROSHIMA
Day 16 – HIROSHIMA/MIYAJIMA/HIROSHIMA
Day 17 – HIROSHIMA/OSAKA
Day 18 to 19 – OSAKA/TAKAYAMA
Day 20 – TAKAYAMA/SHIRAKAWA-GO/TAKAYAMA
Day 21 – TAKAYAMA/KANAZAWA
Day 22 – KANAZAWA/YAMANOUCHI
Day 23 to 24 – YAMANOUCHI/TOKYO
Day 25 – TOKYO/NARITA AIRPORT (late flight out)

As we are both in our 50's we don't want to be racing and would like a little 'down' time to enjoy.

Let's have a look at the numbers and see if a JR Pass can help you make savings. I left some parts out as they are not covered, such as the bus to Shirakawa-go.

Tokyo - Nikko (return) ¥ 11,160
Tokyo - Kamakura (return) ¥ 1,840
Tokyo - Hakone (Shinkansen to Odawara station) ¥ 3,740
Hakone (Odawara) - Kyoto ¥ 12,080
Kyoto - Nara (return) ¥ 1,420
Kyoto - Himeji ¥ 5,270
Himeji - Hiroshima ¥ 8,290
Hiroshima - Miyajima (return) ¥ 1,380
Hiroshima - Osaka ¥ 9,480
Osaka - Takayama ¥ 10,600
Kanazawa - Nagano (or Yamanouchi) ¥ 8,960
Nagano - Tokyo ¥ 8,200
Tokyo - Narita Airport ¥ 3,020

For a total of ¥ 85,440 or ¥ 26,090 in savings as the 21 day JR Pass is ¥ 59,350. So you can make save very good savings using the JR Pass.

Thanks Daniel-san looks like we will make some great savings using this Pass. Thank you very much for your assistance.

We will activate the pass on our travel to Nikko this will be our first day and we should be able to use the pass till we leave on our last day - awesome.
