Hey, I'm thinking of getting the 7 day Japan Rail pass. I'll be meeting my brother in Tokyo on the 12th of September and we plan to take a train to Hiroshima and stay a night then see a few sights and then on to Kyoto for maybe 2 nights then I have to get back to Tokyo by the 16th because I have a flight on the 16th at Midday.

I just wonder would there be enough time to travel on the 16th in the morning or would I be better to leave Kyoto on the 15th in the evening, I dont really know what times the trains run, when are the first and last trains?

Whoop, I meant to say leaving Tokyo on the 13th then spend the day and night in Hiroshima, then the other days in Kyoto

Hi there!

A JR Pass would work out really well here!

Just to have a quick look at savings you can make:
Tokyo - Hiroshima ¥ 18,250
Hiroshima - Kyoto ¥ 10,990
Kyoto - Tokyo ¥ 13,420

For a total of ¥ 42,660 or ¥ 14,360 in savings as the JR Pass is ¥ 28,300 Yen.
This is excluding any local travel you may to, such as to and from the Airport.

As for train time tables, the last Hikari train that you can use with the JR Pass leaves Kyoto at 20:49 and the first departs at 06:23. Travel time between Kyoto - Tokyo is about 160 minutes but be sure to add at least an other 90 minutes to travel from Tokyo station to Narita Airport or 40 minutes for Haneda Airport. You you could either leave Kyoto in the morning for your flight or travel late back to Tokyo. I would personally do the last, just to have a little less stress to be on time for check-in.
